A glazed ceramic vase from Egypt, the body in a slightly ovoid shape and the neck and lip circular in shape, measuring approx. 8-1/8"H x 5-1/2"W x 3-1/2"D. The turquoise glazed vase has a heavily mottled and textured surface, and has applied flower-like discs around the shoulder and applied shapes of bats' faces in four places above the flowers.

A Near-Eastern pottery vessel, measuring approx. 6-1/2"H x 6" in diameter at the widest point. The vessel is fashioned in a ruddy color pottery with some applied rows of scalloped ornaments around the sides. There are stained decorations on the body in repeating geometric shapes and a row of animals with trees in between.

An Indus Valley pottery vessel measuring approx. 5"H x 5" in diameter at the widest point. One side is hand decorated in rust red and black to appear like a woven basket, and the other side is unfinished and roughly textured.

A lovely Greek glazed pottery bowl with the image of a bird in the center, measuring approx. 6-3/4" in diameter x 2-1/2"H, on a small foot. The flaring shape is decorated by hand with matte glazes in earth tones. The meandering flower decoration at the upper portion of the bowl also has some incised detailing.

26. A Large Native American Axe Stone


A large Native American axe stone, in a slightly flattened rounded shape, with evidence of a an area where a binding strap had once been, measuring approx. 4" x 5" x 2". Groundstone tools are shaped though abrasion by pecking, grinding, smoothing or polishing one stone against another. Pecking away with a harder hammerstone, stone pick or chisel the desired groove or form is chipped into a softer stone material. A groundstone tool or ornament may be roughly flaked to shape first and then systematically smoothed.
