| 312. An Impressive Silver Brooch by Guglielmo Cini (Italian, 1922-1979)
An impressive brooch made by Guglielmo Cini, measuring approx. 3-1/4" in diameter, cast in a deep relief, pierced around the designs, with a romantic garden scene in the center surrounded by a foliate border. The brooch has a pin with a safety catch on the back and a hangar-shaped wire with a twist at the top for suspending from a chain. The brooch weighs approx. 1.70 troy.oz. It is marked on the back with one of several of the Cini marks. Cini produces jewelry made of silver and gold-plated silver (vermeil), some with colored rhinestones (in later pieces). Cini pieces are known for their beautiful workmanship, artistic designs, and intricate detail. The company was formed by Guglielmo Cini, who was trained as a jeweler in Florence, Italy, and emigrated to the USA in 1922. He made jewelry in Boston, Massachusetts but moved to Laguna Beach, California, in 1957. The company went out of business in 1970, but has been reopened by the Cini grandaughters, Amy and Molly. 75/125 Sold $51.75 back to catalog |
