| 729. A Bronze Figurine of a Cat in the Egyptian Style
A hollow cast bronze figurine in the shape of a cat with a rough-textured verdegris finish. The shape of the cat is fashioned in the image of the archaic Egyptian cat, ca. 20th Century, approx. 5-1/2"H x 2"W x 2-3/4"D. After the pyramids and the kohl painted eyes, almost nothing evokes more awe and mystery than the fascination ancient Egyptians had with cats. In the late periods of Egyptian history, the popularity of the cat increased and a great many bronze cat statuettes were made; most were intended for shrines or funerary purposes. 100/200 Sold $103.50 back to catalog |
