734. An Antique French Tapestry, ca. 16th/18th Century

A hand made tapestry, measuring approx. 79"H x 55-1/2"W, fashioned in wool and silk threads. The pictorial composition is framed by the image of fringed swags and jabots at the top and sides and a forest floor carpeted with flowers below. The scene itself depicts a beautiful woman in classical garb, looking coquettishly over her left shoulder, holding a flower basket over a pedestal. To the left is a receding landscape with the foreground occupied by two putti assembling two wheels together. Beyond is a traditional distant scene with foliage and buildings.
