169. Unknown Artist, After the Antique
A courtly equestrian painting. Oil on canvas, not signed, 22-1/2" x 20-1/2", framed in a walnut tone frame overall 25-3/8" x 22-3/4". A 20th century copy of one of a series of twelve paintings ca. 1690 depicting equestrian scenes by members of the Danish court of Prince George of Denmark. Each painting depicted a different type of horse in the king's stables and each showed a different Danish castle. The originals are in the collection of Rosenberg Castle, Copenhagen.
