A gorgeous antique Vernis Martin painted ivory ladies' fan, probably ca. 18th century, approx. 14-1/4"W x 8"H with a low shoulder. Each stick is meticulously decorated with hand painted pictures and gilt accent designs. The mount is banded with hand painted paper or thin skin and the bottom of the sticks are pinned together with paste stones on either side. One side is decorated with an interior scene with people in 18th century costume, with a lovely glowing fireplace and pretty people engaging in evening's entertainments around a dining table. The other side is painted with a mountain scene with a castle in the center. The guards are decorated on both sides with paintings of figures, flourishes and flowers.

A French ormolu dresser box, in the shape of a console table on four legs, with one center drawer and a hinged lid. The top is elaborately decorated with pink guilloche enamel surrounding an oval painting of a charming young woman playing with soap bubbles, measuring approx. 2" x 2-3/4", and signed at the right "Cardie" (?). The sides of the box are cast in relief with architectural design elements, and they have curved canted corners. The sides also have a bow and floral festoon applied the the bottom edge. The underside of the box is stamped "France". The interior of the top and of the drawer are fitted with a silk lampas textile. Overall the box measures 5-5/8"W x 4-3/4"D x 4"H.

An impressive Victorian Gothic style bronze dore inkstand, 16-1/2"W handle to handle x 6-1/2"D x 4"H, with a large curved tray at the front and ornately cast handles and legs. The back gallery of the inkstand contains four mouth-blown glass inkwells with bronze dore lids and one larger central glass container with a bronze dore bell as it's lid. Each glass piece is etched with the initials "A.O.F." on the underside, and the cast metal pieces are impressed with the name "Dunn".

A pretty ormolu standing picture frame with a color lithograph of a pretty lady and her dog inside under the glass. The frame is circular, approx. 4-3/4" in diameter, and has an inner panel covered in beige velvet with applied floral swags and flower basket ornaments, with an inner rim comprised of a row of faux seed pearls and a tooled metal rim. Surmounting the frame is a cast ornament of torches, ribbons and laurel leaves (+7/8"). The back has a hinged leg for standing and a bale for hanging, and is inset with fabric.

345. An Antique French Bronze Decorated Picture Frame


An antique French bronze decorated picture frame with a hinged leg for standing on a table top, overall 14-3/4"H x 11-1/4"W. The frame is surrounded by an ormolu relief border which is reeded and twined with roses. The interior rim is decorated with a similar but smaller in scale relief. Between the edges is covered in an ivory textile resembling watered silk and has applied decorations in ormolu wreaths, flowers, quivers of arrows and cupid with two doves at the top. There is a 9" x 6-1/2" glazed opening for a picture that reveals a soft green and ivory woven textile on the backing. The back rim, and stand leg is also covered in the green material and the portion under the leg is covered with the ivory textile. The back can be removed and is held in place with four brass turnbuttons.

The bases are approx. 8" in diameter with a column decorated with ram's heads at the top and foliate candle arms above with grapes and grape leaves. The column of each is surrounded by two cherubs and a Pan in a Bacchanalian posture.
