Edition of 52 proofs. An illustration for 'Men Like Gods' by H. G. Wells." A copy of this print was on exhibition at the Frick, "The Powerful Hand of George Bellows...Drawings from the Boston Public Library", April 21-June 17, 2007. www.frickart.org This image is derived from one of the twenty-seven illustrations that Bellows made for the novel upon its serial publication in "Hearst's International Magazine" in 1922-23. These were not included in the bound edition of the book. Bellows reworked some of the original images as lithographs, printed by Bolton Brown and signed by the artist. This is a powerful image from the novel depicting a utopian society some 3000 years in the future. 2,500/4,500 Sold $1,035.00 back to catalog |
