1027. A Pretty Antique Clock with S. Marti & Cie Movement in a Porcelain Case

A pretty antique porcelain figural clock, the rococo style body hand decorated in pink, aqua and picked out in gilt, next to a figural representation of a gentleman helping a lovely lady to cross a small waterfall. The clock has a cream enameled face with Roman numerals for the hours and with Arabic numerals for the minutes. The face is covered by a hinged beveled glass enclosed in a beaded metal rim, approx. 4-1/2" in diameter. The porcelain case overall measures 11"H x 9"W x 4-1/2"D and is marked with crossed swords in blue underglaze on the back, in the Meissen style. Inside the clock the backplate is marked with the circular mark of "S Marti ed Cie" and "Medaille de Bronze" (Samuel Marti & Son) ca. 1889. The pendulum is present. The underside is covered with a flat piece of wood braced in at a later time with ceramic paste. Apart from the damages, this is an excellent example.
