573. A Fabulous Micromosaic Pendant, Italian, ca. 1870

A fabulous example of antique micromosaic jewelry, this pendant was made in a popular revivalist motif with minute tesserae, with a central shape embellished in multicolor micromosaic depicting a bird inside a circle with a blue and white floral border. It is inset in an irregular shape of 18K yellow gold with a locket back for a memento covered with a beveled glass. Either side of the shape has a row of applied graduated gold beads, and there are scrolling thick wire shapes at the top and at the bottom, each with a matching smaller setting of micromosaic. Overall it measures 2-1/2" to the top of the bale x 1-1/2"W.
