431. A Carved Jade Brush Wash Set on a Stand

A wonderfully carved (20th century) jade brush wash set, resting on a carved wooden stand specifically made for it. The object is carved in an irregular cloud shape conjoined with an oval lidded container with a bat's head decoration at one end, carved from a single piece of translucent white jade with a celadon cast, and with the bat's head in a darker shade. Overall the jade measures 8"W x 4-1/4" x 2-3/8"H, and the carved stand adds 2-3/8" to the height. The sides of the containers are carved in a simple wafer-thin light celadon jade. The oval container has an incised "key" edge banding on the base and the lid.
