246. William Sommer (American, 1867-1949)

Cupid with a violin. Gouache on illustration board, signed in the lower right corner, matted and framed under glass, the sight size 14" x 9-3/4", and with the framing overall 18-5/8" x 14-3/4". Also included with this lot is a framed part of an exhibition catalog of Sommer's work from Circle Gallery in 1962, overall 10-7/8" x 8-3/4". It is glued together and has some adhesive damage, pinholes, discoloration and losses. (Please see detail photograph) Provenance: inherited mid-20th Century by the current owner from family member Richard Sedlon, also a Cleveland School artist, contemporary and friend of William Sommer.
