Three finely carved and etched pieces of mother of pearl the first 2-3/4" x 1-1/8" with initials and foliate designs on one side and a landscape with pagoda and foliate designs on the other, a 1-3/4" diameter disc with the pagoda motif on one side and initials on the other, and a pierced and carved piece, 7/8" x 2-1/2" with a farm scene on one side and a circle with an arm holding a cross flanked by scenes with animals on the other.

A pair of small Satsuma vases, each approx. 6"H x 3-1/4" in diameter at the shoulder, with images of Geishas with children around the sides, and elaborately detailed bands of color designs at the shoulder and at the base. Delicately handled glaze painting, enamel and gilding work. Any maker's marks were lost when the vases were drilled for making into lamps.

984. A Superb Royal Satsuma Vase, Japanese ca. 19th Century
A Royal Satsuma vase, in an unusual shape with a widely flaring top, a squat bulbous body and two gilt stylized elephant head handles at either side of the neck. It stands on a small foot and is marked in gilt over black on the underside. Overall it measures approx. 6"H and flares to 4-1/8" in diameter at the lip. It is covered with masterfully applied minute figural images of the Immortals and designs in polychrome and gilt glazes.
