An allegorical scene. Oil on canvas, no signature found, the canvas approx. 28" x 38", framed in a wide ornate gilt frame overall approx. 37" x 46". The narrative appears to describe an incident in a cave interior depicting a conflict among a complicated cluster of figures and animals in various poses. The central figure is a bearded man advancing on other figures, some of them already tumbled down. It appears to have been cut down at one time as some of the figures are cropped.

Portrait of a woman. Oil on canvas, no signature found, framed in a fine oval spandral period frame in a softly gilt finish, the canvas size approx. 30" x 25", and overall with the frame approx. 38" x 32-1/2". A very well painted portrait of a pretty young woman with a mild expression, with her attire and hair in the mid-19th century manner. Note the lovely brooch at her throat, which depicts the micro-mosaic jewelry popularized at the time. The image shown is the Colosseum. The painting is not signed on verso, but has the stamp of the canvas maker.

A fine example of a copy of the famous painting, "The Voyage of Youth" the original by Thomas Cole, ca. 1840, approx 25" x 31-1/2" canvas size, framed in a period gilt frame overall approx. 31" x 37". The original works were copied in engravings and widely distributed; as was customary at the time, one could paint or have painted a copy of the famous work from the print as an American status symbol. This is a particularly nice vintage rendition.

A charmingly naive painting with great concentration on details such as the architectural features, the animals to the right and the left of the composition, to the doorway with the lady smoking a pipe with a small dog lazing on the wooden sidewalk.
