In this lovely depiction of the Annunciation, the Archangel Gabriel approaches Mary carrying a lily with four blossoms (the symbol of virginity) and pointing up to the heavens with the symbol of The Holy Spirit, a dove, while cherubs observe the scene from the clouds. Mary is posed in the traditional position of kneeling before a book in deep contemplation, while her sewing basket is set behind her in a garden.
