A handsome four-piece boat-shaped coffee and tea service in sterling silver, including a 9"H coffee pot, a 6-1/2"H tea pot, a 4-1/2"H double handled sugar bowl and a 4-1/2"H cream pitcher, each marked on the underside. Each piece is ornamented similarly with gadrooning at the base and on the lip with corner ornaments. The four pieces together weigh approx. 79.815 troy oz.

404. Pair of Silver Beakers, Formerly Belonging to Lloyd Osbourne, Stepson and presented by Robert Louis Stevenson
Two sterling silver cups with gold washed interiors. The larger cup features incised scrolling foliate designs twisted and knotted upon itself. The smaller cup is incised with a depiction of birds, fish and curvilinear shell shapes. The undersides are hallmarked and incised with the owners name, Lloyd Osbourne (1868-1947). The large cup measures approx. 3-1/4"H x 2-7/8"H, and small cup measures approx. 3-1/8"H x 2-1/2"W. Osbourne was the stepson of the American author Robert Louis Stevenson. He collaborated with Stevenson on three novels and also wrote books of his own. As a young boy, he was the indirect inspiration for Stevenson's popular adventure novel "Treasure Island". It is believed that Stevenson may have presented these cups to his stepson as a gift.

Designed with a beveled body slightly tapered upwards and decorated with engraved designs featuring scroll swags, vase motifs, and a monogram vignette with initials "RK". Ivory or bone insulators on the curved handle. Vase shape finial graces a hinged lid. Bottom marked "Sterling/ 1605/ S & E/ Handmade." Overall measures approx. 8-1/2"T. Total weight approx. 14 troy oz. The Sweetser Co. were manufacturers of gold & sterling ware.
