1076. Two Volume Set of Cosway Style Bindings by Baytun Binder of "The Secret Memoirs of The Royal Family of France...", Extra Illustrated
Published: H.S. Nichols & Co, London, 1895. Published from the journals and letters of Princess Lamalle, a "Lady of Rank", published in two vols with 62 extra plates, 20 of which are in color. This is a limited edition copy of 500. Baytun Binders of Bath England, full bull leather with beautiful tooled spines with 6 compartments. Front boards each with a Cosway style portrait of Marie Antonette and Princess Lamballe, each portrait under glass, approx. 3-1/8" x 2-1/2", one signed "Renoit", the other "Peloux". Each have a tooled gilt design around the portrait, the back cover with tooled and gilt Fleur de Lys. Full gilt paper edges. Blue silk end papers. Many tipped-in plates, hand colored plate, and both with engraved frontispieces and tissue guards. Both have their own blue buckram slipcases. Approx. 8-3/4"T x 6".

1077. A Cosway Style Binding by Bayntun with Double Portraits of Napoleon and Josephine, "The Fair Sex", 1894
Published: William Heinemann, 1894. Translated from the French of Frederic Masson. 40 extra plates, 10 of which are in color. Extra illustrated version. Full purple Morroco with embossed covers with gilt; front cover with initials of "N" and "J". Five raised bands on spine with gilt tooled compartments. Paper edges gilt, purple satin interior board and fly, board with Bayntun Binder Bath Eng. Spine has been repaired, with chips and losses to head and tail. Light wear to boards, satin time-toned. Approx. 8-1/4"T. Oval portraits signed "Dupre" and Roi", each approx. 3" x 2-1/2".

1078. A Rare Early Spanish edition of Ovid's "Metamorphoses" translated by Pedro Sanchez De Viana, dated 1589
Published: Vallodolid, Diego Fernandez de Cordona, Impressor del Rey Nuestro senor, 1589., 1589. 2 parts in 1 vol. 4to. Missing the title page in front of book, the book starts with a two page dedication by the translator Pedro Sanchez De Viana of Ovid's Metamorphoses, wih a commentary making the classical myths accord with Christian beliefs, followed by eight poems of dedication, a twenty page prologue by the author which includes an excerpt from Ovid's own books. Then, a four page listing of cited authors. Part one has the 15 books of the transformations, each with an elongated woodcut illustration and ornamental letter, and some ending with a diamond shaped device in horizontal or vertical direction, others with a fleur de lys with two feathers and three flowers. Pages are numbered 1 through 179. In between part one and two, a three page table of the fables in alphabetical order. Part two the transformations are annotated and the title page is PRESENT. Again it starts with a dedication and prologue, pages numbered 1-309 (last few pages presumed missing). This section without fancy woodcuts or devices. 19th century binding in brown calf with decorative spine in poor condition. Interior with browned pages and brown ink markings over text and in margins, owner's name in ink on fly page, several pages restored. Overall in good condition.

Published: Les Editions de Minuit, Paris, 1965. First edition, lilited edition to 100, this being numbered 21. Text in French. Owners bookplate on fly page. Partial dark morocco with paper boards, one in red the other blue. Decorative spine with embossed and painting with gilt and compartment for title and writer. Each approx. 7-5/8"T. Both have binders name stamp in gilt at front, both dated in the back, 1971. Interiors clean and bright. Both with matching slipcase. Near fine.

Published: Edinburgh, 1810. First edition and First impression. ith correct watermarks ranging from 1807-1810. Intact and collated, 4to. Full page engraved frontispiece of the author. Rebound in Victorian red leather binding with embossed pictorial boards in gilt. Ornate spine with six compartments. marbled end papers. Spine starting. Spine has been repaired and well as corners. Intact copies of this book are very few if they exist at all as it was read heavily. This copy was saved, perhaps, by the fact that one hundred pages of notes were bound in front, since removed when rebound in the late 19th century. Offered with custom wood case.

Hand bound on a willow-wood spine with linen cords in cover handmade from Russian hemp fiber. Offered in a hand made wood box with an image laser-etched into the top board. Signed by the poet and artist as well as the designer of the book Robert Tauber and the producer, Russell McKnight. Approx. 21" x 15-1/4" x 2". Box has small dent in wood at edge. Very good.

1085. Varieties of the Japanese Print Volume 1 by Toshi Yoshida
Published: Privately, Tokyo, 1967. A vary rare book, only volume one was ever published. Signed in English and Japanese by the author. Oblong book with beige paper covered boards with affixed paper label, spine with braided silk cord. Book contain 20 hand printed examples by Yoshia, using as many different materials and methods as possible. He designed 11 prints for this purpose, using 11 different kinds of block and 12 kinds of Japanese paper. Near fine, with brown paper board slip case with similar paper label and spine cover. Approx. 8" x 9".
